Learn MoreVermont Sweetwater Bottling Company is a small Vermont family owned and operated bottling company, producing ten all natural beverages, made from only the finest ingredients.
The Idea is born...
The idea for their first product was born when brothers, Bob and Rich Münch were drinking maple sap, while doing some backyard maple syrup making. They both agreed that the maple sap tapped right from the Maple tree, with a little carbonation would make a terrific beverage and so became the birth of Vermont Sweetwater Bottling Company.
Getting the genie to stay in the bottle...
The next year was spent researching the preservation of maple sap and the gathering of equipment found throughout New England. At the heart of their bottling line is a restored 1940 vintage Crown Cork and Seal Dixie bottler. The equipment was assembled in the old dairy barn on the family farm and by the start of the next sugaring season everything was in place to produce their first product, Vermont Maple Seltzer. The Vermont Maple Seltzer is made with 100% maple sap with no water added. During the following year Vermont Sweetwater received a United States patent on their product for its unique pasteurization and carbonation process.
The Adventurous Maple Lovers make their request...
While marketing the clean and subtle taste of the Vermont Maple Seltzer, it became clear that a sweeter more mapley product was sought by many with a taste for a bolder flavor. The brothers, family and friends began formulation a new soda sweetened with only maple syrup. To fill the other end of the soda spectrum, Vermont Maple Soda was introduced in the summer of 1996 with a colorful new label. Each twelve ounce bottle has one full ounce of Vermont Maple syrup which gives it the desired taste.
The new millennium brings some fruity ideas...
In 1999, with the millennium just around the corner, their thoughts were to bring on a few new fruit flavors. Again back to the kitchen table with family and friends, the brothers tried to focus on flavors that had been missed by all the "big guys", but were unique and tasteful to others who had a desire for an all natural fruit soda, with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. After many evenings of tasting and re-tasting the many different samples, the field was narrowed down to four of their absolute favorites. Each one hitting the mark on exactly what they were looking for in a fun and refreshing taste that would appeal to everyone.
The big shots approve...
In June of 1999, the new flavors were introduced a the New York Fancy Food Show with great success. The excitement at the exhibit was intensified by the overwhelming approval of all satisfied tasters. The new flavors, like their older counterparts, Country Apple Jack, Tangerine Cream Twister, Raspberry Rhubarb Ramble and Mango Moonshine, have no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
Re-inventing the wheel...
They found doing the tastings that a lot of people were hesitant about trying something different. They noted a need for some old flavors, with a new twist, and what could be more popular than Cola and Root Beer? After adding a pinch of this and a sprinkle of that, they were able ot put a new spin on these old standbys. All the members at Grammy's Sunday dinner gave their seal of approval on these two new flavors thus, Kickin' Cow-Cola and Rugged Mountain Root Beer were created.
Sunday Dinners...
Watch for new flavors as when everyone gets together the talk turns to new and exciting ideas.
